City Centre Office Fit-Out

A city centre project that presented many complexities in terms of accessibility– a number of changes in levels within the building presented design challenges for providing an office that could be used universally. The concept for this project was the notion of a journey – we were dealing with three distinct eras of building, the most interesting being the 1800’s element which merged with the 1960’s and the 1990’s.

We wanted the occupants to have a sense of history within their space and as a result, each area became a district that used materials that reflected the buildings age. Areas of exposed brickwork were constructed within the space, along with the use of wrought iron railings on ramps and dark framed glazing to create a sense of the past. A timber-floored walkway throughout the space laid in a herringbone pattern cleverly guides the user on a journey to all sections of the building – this walkway remains consistent throughout with the direction of the chevron/pattern acting as a method of way-finding.
