A rural 2-storey farm cottage dating back to the early 18th Century set in Co. Carlow that underwent complete refurbishment, internal upgrade, outhouse conversion, and addition of an extension to side and rear. The retained masonry walls of the outhouse were left as exposed stonework in solid Granite. The pointing of the stonework throughout the original cottage underwent extensive repair and restoration work to bring it back to its former glory which involved carefully repointing using lime mortar through best conservation practice. The extension involved a new kitchen and living area and two additional bedrooms. The project objective was to emphasise the character and atmosphere of the older farm cottage and to design an extension characteristic of the Irish Vernacular with a modern interior.
