Belvedere College - Home Economics Room

This project involved the provision of a new home economics room in a flexible arrangement through bespoke furniture design, to allow students to work individually and also to participate in group cookery classes. The layout incorporates fixed and moveable work benches for 24 students complete with cooking appliances. The project was completed as a summer works project and involved a full strip out along with new mechanical and electrical services and fit out.

The approach to this project was to ensure that the materials used were attractive and honest in their appearance, through careful introduction of colour, yet be durable and hard wearing. Examples of this are the use of birch plywood carcasses, veneered doors and Silestone worktops. The space also operates as a venue for celebrity chef cookery classes given the quality of finish and standard of equipment used.
